The Ibbenbüren rugby pirates started their Regional league bit against Bochum Witten a team we have never played before but we hope to meet more often, From the kickoff both teams showed that they meant buisness with big hits and line breaks coming as often as one would expect from two teams in the Regional leagues, Bochum Witten opened the scoring with a penalty kick by Vivien Seelweger, Pirates 0 - 3 Bochum Witten, after 10 minutes, the Pirates immediatly hit back when, after a solid scrum, Rico Wall bust through the Bochum defence and touched down under the posts. David Creese kicked the conversion to give the Pirates a 7-3 lead after 12 minutes.

After Felix Plumpe was sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes Lars Hönscher broke through the Pirates line to give Bochums first try of the day, Seelweger missed the conversion giving Bochum an 8-7 advantage. The pirates now down to 14 men were punished again when Hönscher touched down for a second time, this time Seelweger hit his target between the posts Bocum lead 15-7 after 26 minutes. After a good build up from a misfiring pirates the ball found it's way to the hands of Roman Kaliat (on loan from Lemgo) who raced over the line, with David Creese's conversion the game stood 15-14 to Bochum. Bochum struck back within 2 minutes after Adrian Dinca crossed the white wash giving Bochum their 3rd try of the day Seelweger's conversion give the Half time score of Bochum Witten 22 - 14 Pirates.

The Second half started as the first did with some physical rugby, David Creese was penalised on the 53rd minute and sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes, Somehow without their Captain the pirates lay siege to Bochum's try line, Phillip Rumbelow was held up over the line but Ibbenbüren looked like a try was inevitable, after a 5 metre scrum Steve Shirley powered his way over for a typical forwards try, without their kicker it was up to Kaliat to take the conversion, which drifted to the left making it 22-19 to Bochum in the 62nd minute Bochums Falk Syberg gave them a well deserved bonus point by scoring a try shortly after another attempt failed to cross by centemetres this gave Bochum a 27-19 lead. The Superiority of Bochum Wittens fitness then showed as Hörnscher broke through the exhausted pirates defence giving them a 32-19 on the 71st minute, On the stroke on full time Bochum attempet penalty hit the posts and landed in the hands of the pirates, some confusing commands led the pirates to kick the ball into touch ending the game 32-19 to Bochum Witten, Phillip Rumbelow.

We would like to extend our gratuitude for a great game and Bochum are always welcome in Ibbenbüren
